PROVINCE COMPETITION RULES

SEASON 2007/2008

One copy of the Competition Rules will be on display, at all times, on the Province Notice Board.

 

One copy of the Province Rules will be sent to all the Secretaries of participating Clubs within the Province.

 

One copy of the Province Rules will be kept in the Ice Rink Office.

 

Scorecards will be made out prior to the game and should be correctly filed in by the appropriate rink. The cards should have details of the names of the players, the match score and be signed. They should be deposited in the receptacle on the Province Notice Board or handed to the Province Committee member present at the competition.

 

All competitions will be eight ends or the bell whichever is sooner.

 

 

In the event of a points tie in a competition the winning rink will be decided, unless otherwise stated, by applying the following:

A)    Highest shots difference;

B)    Highest shots scored;

C)    Lowest shots against;

D)    Highest number of ends won;

E)     Lowest number of ends lost;

 

Competition results will be updated A.S.A.P. and posted on the Province notice board and web site as soon as practical.

 

Rinks playing with three players only must commence the game. The RCCC rules detailed on page three shall apply in such circumstances.

 

A late arriving player may only take the ice at the start of an end.

 

 Teams playing against the Greenacres Wheelchair Curling Club will not be allowed to sweep, behind the tee, the stones delivered by the Wheelchair Club. This includes Wheelchair Club stones which, having come to rest are struck by any other stone and are then moving behind the tee.

 

LADIES BROOM

 

Two-rink entry per club.

Should any club enter only one rink they would then be ineligible to win the Broom, but eligible to win as the highest-up rink.

The Broom will be awarded to the club with the greatest number of shots up.

A prize will be awarded to the rink having the highest up shots.

The game will be played as eight ends or the bell.

In the event of a tie, ends and then total shots will decide the winning club.

 

 

SHAND HARVEY

 

Two-rink entry per Club.

Medals will be awarded to all Clubs having a Total Plus score.

 

 

BARRATT CUP

 

One-rink entry per Club.

The Cup is a knockout competition with the number of rounds dictated by the number of entries.

Rinks will consist of four players drawn from a pool of no more than six.

In the event of a draw ends will count. If ends are even then the skips will draw a shot to the head. The skips shots to the head may be swept.

 

 

RAMSHEAD

 

One-rink entry per Club.

The first section of the competition will be played on a league basis with teams qualifying for a knockout phase. The number of entries will dictate the number of sections and teams qualifying for the knockout phase. The Province Match Secretary will, before the start of the competition, notify participating Clubs of league structure and number of teams to qualify from each section.

In the league section of the Ramshead the winning scores will be based on POINTS – SHOTS – ENDS.

In the event of a draw in the knockout section of the competition ends will count. If ends are even then the skips will draw a shot to the head, which may be swept.

 

 

PRESIDENT v VICE-PRESIDENT

 

One-rink entry per club.

Prizes will be awarded to the highest up rink in both the Presidents and Vice-Presidents teams.

In the event of a tie winners will be decided on Ends and then Total Shots.

 

 

 

 

LADIES LEAGUE

 

The rules for the ladies league are the same as the league section of the Ramshead.

 

 

FAILURE TO APPEAR

 

The RCCC rules will be applied as follows:

 

A team entered to play with a member(s) failing to appear on the ice and ready to play after five minutes of the starting signal shall forfeit one shot and one shot for each additional five minutes up to a maximum of 30 minutes when the offending team shall forfeit the game.

No dispensation to this rule shall be granted for any reason whatsoever.

Where the competition rules specify a game to be a number of ends with ends scored as a method of deciding the result or ranking a team with a member(s) failing to appear on the ice shall be penalised, depending on the length of time, as follows:

5mins     0 ends    and 1shot

10mins   1 end     and 2 shots

15mins   1 end     and 3 shots

20mins   2 ends    and 4 shots

25mins   3 ends    and 5 shots

30mins game forfeit.

Where a late penalty applies in any game, ends forfeit shall be deducted from the total ends to be played.

 

Upon forfeiture of a game the following penalties shall be impose:

Six shots shall be awarded to the non-offending team and also be deducted from the offending team.

 

Games played to session times:

Under 1hr 40 mins                                                       4 ends awarded

1hr 40 mins and over but under 2hrs and 10 mins   5 ends awarded

2hrs and 10 mins and over                                          6 ends awarded

No ends will be awarded to the offending team.

 

Games played to a fixed number of ends:

 

6-7 ends                                                                         4 ends awarded

8-9 ends                                                                         5 ends awarded

10 ends                                                                          6 ends awarded

 

The latecomers rule will apply whether games are played by time or a fixed number of ends: if a fixed number of ends the penalty shall be applied and the game shall be played to a session time as determined by the umpire.

 

Clubs forfeiting the game under the above rules will be responsible for the total cost of the ice booked.

 

 

This revision to the Province Rules  concerning sweep against Greenacres Wheelchair Curling Club was approved by the AGM held on 3rd April 2007.
